Welcome to Dream Vacations, a lifestyle column on travelling to amazing destinations with practical advice and my revelations about locales from years of personal experience. If you are able to book a last-minute getaway to Oahu, Hawaii (or any of the islands in Hawaii), the fall can be a perfect season for a vacation in Hawaii.

The Weather

The weather in Oahu, and all of Hawaii, in the fall is still considered perfect vacation weather. High’s range from 86F in September to 81F in December. You will want to bring a sweater or light jacket for the cooler evenings or the windward sides of the islands, especially in late fall, November and December. Although the fall is the start of the rainy season, September and October are still near the bottom of precipitation scale and when it does rain, it’s usually at night, or in short bursts during the day time.

However, October is the warmest time for ocean currents, so even if the temperatures are not scorching hot, the waters are still pleasantly warm. This time of year, is a watersports enthusiast dream, especially for surfing as competitors compete for the Triple Crown.

Oahu Delights

Oahu in the fall is a great destination for visitors seeking to immerse themselves in culture, as the island hosts a number of festivals that focus on food, fashion, film and Hawaiian heritage.

Here are some of the better-known events and festivals:

Accommodations, Prices & Crowds

This is typically known as the shoulder season for Hawaii, if you can call it that, for such a prized tourist and travel destination. As children are back in school, there are less crowds and better access to local community and cultural events. Visitor arrivals in September through November drop by about 20%. For Oahu prices are a little bit cheaper during this season, but do not expect to see bargain prices for a Hawaiian vacation.

Although Oahu still nets the most visitors of any island in Hawaii, representing about 45% of all visitors to Hawaii, the fall is a perfect opportunity to avoid these crowds and see the top tourist spots without the crowds. Be sure to check out our great fall accommodations in Oahu, the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort.
